Robust, well controlled and structured software development is at the heart of any successful and safe control system implementation. All too often PLC code is written 'on the fly' without proper respect for formal software development life cycle processes or clearly defined functional analysis. In many cases focus is given only to the immediate problems of machine or system 'normal' functionality without regard for the 'what if' scenarios when unexpected events occur.


Our software development approach is heavily biased towards integration of fault tolerance, redundancy, error checking, graceful failure and sophisticated alarms handling.  This comes from years of experience of developing marine and offshore systems requiring Classification Authority Design Appraisal and Approval to meet standards such as:

  • DnV Rules for the Classification of Ships Part 4 Chapter 9 ‘Control & Monitoring Systems'
  • DnV Offshore Standard DNV-OS-D203 'Integrated Software Dependent Systems (ISDS)'
